Joint Commission Recognizes Temple Community Hospital

Temple Community Hospital is proud to announce their latest achievement in maintaining quality healthcare. Each year, the Joint Commission recognizes a select number of medical organizations for their excellence by way of the Top Performer on Key Quality Measures program. This program recognizes excellence in the medical field and is used to encourage excellence in medical care throughout the nation.

The Joint Commission is an independent, non-profit organization that is responsible for accrediting and certifying over 19,000 medical organizations and programs. Their accreditation and certification is a nationwide mark of distinction that can only be reached by hard work and dedication to meeting stringent standards for high-quality healthcare practices.

This year, 620 hospitals will be recognized. These hospitals comprise the top 18 percent of the Joint Commission-accredited hospitals that sent core measure performance data in 2011. Almost half of these hospitals were recognized as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures in 2011, making them Top Performers two years in a row.

The award of Top Performer can be achieved in several areas, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, and surgical care. Temple Community Hospital has achieved recognition in the areas of heart attack, pneumonia, and surgical care. In order to qualify as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures, the hospitals must send the Joint Commission data regarding evidence-based clinical processes that have been proven as the best treatments for a wide range of conditions from heart attack and surgical care to children’s asthma and pneumonia.

There are several requirements necessary in order to meet the criteria of a Top Performer. The hospital must possess a collective score in the top 5th percentile that includes every accountability measure that they report to the Joint Commission, as well as score in the top 5th percentile for each individual accountability measure. The standards for becoming a Top Performer are high and the achievement is not an easy one.
